In early May, UCSF Bioethics and the UCSF Department of Pediatrics hosted a joint Grand Rounds on the ethical and policy issues for CRISPR gene therapy to treat sickle cell disease including questions about access, equity, global considerations, and patient/clinician discussions. The hour long session included presentations from Marsha Treadwell PhD (Co-Director, UCSF Sickle Cell Center of Excellence), Manar Zhaglula PhD (Policy Manager, Innovative Genomics Institute), and Christelle Salomon MS (sickle cell warrior), moderated by Julia Brown PhD (Postdoctoral Scholar, UCSF Bioethics). A recording of the session is available.
