A Life in Bioethics: Celebrating the Career of Barbara Koenig, PhD

Thank you so much to everyone who joined, virtually and in person, for our event on January 22nd, 2024: A Life in Bioethics: Celebrating the Career of Barbara Koenig, PhD.

UCSF Bioethics Director Emeritus Barbara Koenig, PhD retired from UCSF in June 2020 and we were honored to hold a symposium celebrating her and her work in bioethics. Dr. Koenig helped found bioethics centers at Stanford University, the Mayo Clinic, and UCSF and is a national and international expert in genomics, cultural and clinical experiences of death and dying, biobanking, and community engagement.

At the event itself, we were joined by mentees and colleagues of Dr. Koenig's who participated in three panels oriented around major themes from Dr. Koenig's research career: Race & Genomics, Cultural & End of Life, and Governance in Biomedical Data. Panelists read a significant publication from Dr. Koenig's work on the theme of their panel and reflected on the paper in the context of their own work. The papers for each panel, and an agenda of the day, can be found here.

For those who were unable to join or would like to view the event again, a recording of the event can be found here.
